We went for the Wagner-Festspiel, so it's simple: Bayreuth is the only place. It's a little out of the way for air or train travel, so we chose to drive from Berlin. The baroque opera house is lovely and certainly worth a visit. \The Margrave New Palace and park. Also the Hermitage, on the outskirts of Bayreuth. The Wagner museum is a sort of must, but if possible, check the times of guided tours to the Steingaertner Piano factory. Bayreuth was a pleasantly relaxing place with plenty to see, both in the city and nature. There are several nice parks, as well as a lovely botanical garden. I was a bit surprised at the Ermitage, as it stands out significantly from other European palaces. We found a delightful mexican restautant, Enchilada. We went a few times in our stay. It was mostly comfortable to ride a bike, though many streets lack bike lanes.

Since I live only 40 miles away, it wasn’t exactly a „Weltreise.“ But it was nice to find a reasonably priced hotel for an overnight. The room was spacious and comfortable, the staff friendly and helpful, the breakfast excellent. I know where to stay for my next overnight in Bayreuth.

The hotel acceded to all the requests I made in advance and allocated me a quiet room at the back of the hotel with a view over the garden. The bar, breakfast room and patio were all pleasant with nice food. The free coach transport to and from the Festspielhaus was very welcome (although standard practice for the main hotels in Bayreuth).
