It’s a fascinating city, crowded with people from all over the world. The public transportation is absolutely fantastic. It’s noisy 24/7. If you want nightlife, you can find it. The major Religion is Islam, which I was happy to learn more about and see an action. As long as you’re respectful when you visit a mosque, you live your life your own way and dress the way you want to dress while you’re in Istanbul. The Ottoman Empire sites like Topkapi Palace were Fascinating, but expect crowds. My favorite thing to do was to ride the passenger ferries back-and-forth across the Bosporus. With an Istanbulkart, It cost next to nothing. I was there in mid June and it was very hot. Prepare yourself for that.

It brings so many different cultures into one place and the architecture along with the landscape is just lovely. Istanbul is HUGE with lots of different areas. Plenty of good walks. Food is a bit one dimensional and it is not a cheap destination. Ive been before so I swerved the mosques, but I would suggest going in autumn or early spring to avoid the heat and crowds at all the sights. The monuments are exhausting, huge and expensive so choose wisely. Do not fall for any perfume scams on the street - they are all toxic fakes. Galata area has heaps of fun restaurants and bars but the steep streets may be difficult for some.LyndalAustralia
